Setting up mIRC

When the mIRC program opens up, the box below will appear in the middle of the program window. Since mIRC is shareware and not freeware, it's free for a 30-day period, but continued use after that requires registration and the payment of the $US20 fee. The details about registration and payment will pop up every time mIRC is opened (see image below), so click the top right 'X' to get rid of the box.


 

Your personal details need to be entered before mIRC can be used. Another box will pop up. It will look like the one below:


 

Experienced IRC users often advise against entering a full name and e-mail address for reasons of privacy, although in some areas it is regarded as proper etiquette to include an e-mail address. Women using IRC often choose an identity which doesn't give away their gender. A nine-letter nickname is needed as well as an alternative in case someone on the chat channel is already using your first choice.
